I Need A Change By: Justin Cross and Amy Cross I stopped looking for the answers I quit asking for the reasons why Threw my hands up in surrender Tryin’ to steal a little sleep at night The fever takes hold But even it comes and goes I need a change Change, change To wash over me I need a life giver A wide river Come and make me clean I need a change change change Lately feels like there is nothing Makes me wanna keep my head held high I’m either crawling or I’m running Always tired losing my will to fight The trail might get cold But the water still flows And I need a change Change, change To wash over me I need a life giver A wide river Come and make me clean I need a change change change Kill me or heal me But don’t say I’m too far gone Plague me or save me But please don’t leave me here alone Cause I need a change Change, change To wash over me I need a life giver A wide river Come and make me clean I need a change change change

about

As many of you know, I have been in the middle of releasing an album and have already released two singles from that project. In light of the way things are in the world these days, I decided a while back to postpone that for now because honestly there are more important things going on and I, being someone who already feels icky about self promotion, just didn’t feel right about pitching an album in the middle of all this.

To say the least, this year has been weird for all of us. So much has happened: a global pandemic, worldwide protests against racial injustice and police brutality, and murder hornets (🤷‍♂️) to name a few. Add to that the stresses of day to day life now amplified by the fear of not knowing what’s next and you get collective anxiety and tension like we have never experienced in our lifetimes.

In the first few weeks of the pandemic my wife and I found out we were pregnant. A few weeks later we lost the baby. We were at a loss, not sure what to do or where to go. We needed a change. We wrote this song after having several conversations about all the we had been going through. We entered it into a local songwriting competition and, to my surprise, we ended up winning.

It is a joy to get to share the credit with my wife, Amy and her contributions to this song took it to a whole new level. The guys over at Mason Music Recording Studio were amazing to work with and the production on this song is top notch, so give them a shout next time you need to make a record.

We needed this song when it was written and I hope it can help you wherever you are right now.

Also, I’m still sitting on the new album, so when the time is right I’ll get that out to y’all. Love, peace, and hope to you and yours.
